Large

Vermiculite is a naturally occurring mineral from the mica group that expands when heated. The resulting material is lightweight, fire-resistant, and has excellent insulating properties.

1. Production:

- Mining and crushing: Raw vermiculite is mined and crushed into smaller fractions.
- Heating: Material is rapidly heated to 900–1000°C, expanding up to 30 times its original volume.
- Sorting and packaging: The vermiculite is screened and packaged for various uses.

2. Applications:

- Construction: Insulation in roofs, walls, and floors.
- Fire protection: Filling material for fire-resistant structures.
- Horticulture: Soil conditioner and water-retaining medium.
- Industry: Filtration of liquids and absorption of hazardous chemicals.

3. Advantages:

- Fireproof and heat resistant
- Lightweight and expanded
- Chemically inert and non-toxic
- Water-retentive and draining

4. Handling and storage:

- Use respiratory protection when handling dry vermiculite to avoid dust inhalation.
- Store in a dry, ventilated place.

5. Market outlook:

Growing demand for sustainable and fire-safe materials, especially in construction and agriculture.

Perlite

Perlite is a volcanic glass-like rock that expands at high temperatures, forming a lightweight material. It has low density, high porosity, and chemical stability.

1. Production:

- Extraction: Raw perlite is mined and crushed.
- Heating: Heated to about 850–1000°C, expands up to 20 times its volume.
- Cooling and sorting: Cooled and sorted by size.

2. Applications:

- Construction: Insulation in walls, roofs, and floors.
- Agriculture: Soil conditioner and plant substrate.
- Industrial: Filtration, molds, and fire protection.

3. Advantages:

- Lightweight with high volume expansion
- Fire resistant and chemically stable
- Water-retentive but well-draining
- Recyclable and environmentally friendly

4. Handling and storage:

- Use safety goggles and dust masks during handling.
- Store in a dry place.

5. Market outlook:

Increasing demand in construction and eco-friendly applications focused on sustainability.

Sodium and potassium SIlicate (waterglass)

Sodium and Potassium Silicates in liquid form which are used for an example in steel and foundry industries, paper production, ground and soil strengthening, housing and wall strengthening, steel tube curing, anti-rust treatment, preservation of industrial and military watercooled engines, water treatment for environmental and drinking water production, concrete curing accelerator, water repelling functions for concretes and many other enhancing functions such as for paints and detergents.

MICROSILICAS

Is used for instance in concrete production to enhance concrete mixes functions and used in foundry to increase the longivety of the casts. Microsilica has many uses.

silimic

Microsilica (silica fume) is a fine, amorphous form of silicon dioxide obtained as a byproduct from electric arc furnaces during silicon metal production.

1. Production:

- Flue gas collection: Silica particles are collected from furnace flue gases.
- Condensation and processing: Particles condense into a fine powder.
- Screening and packaging: Powder is screened and packaged.

2. Applications:

- Concrete industry: Enhances strength, reduces permeability, and improves abrasion resistance.
- Paint and coatings industry: Filler and improves chemical resistance.
- Electronics: Insulating material.

3. Properties:

- Extremely fine particles (nano-sized) - High surface area and reactivity - Improves composite material properties

4. Handling and storage:

- Use protective equipment to avoid inhalation.
- Store dry.

5. Market:

Growing demand in construction materials and advanced industrial products.

expanded clay

Expanded clay is a lightweight aggregate produced by heating clay pellets to high temperatures, resulting in a porous and durable structure.

It is used in construction, landscaping, and water treatment.

Properties and Applications:

- Lightweight Fill: Used to reduce weight in structures, as fill material in road construction and green roofs.

- Drainage and Insulation: Due to its porous structure, expanded clay is effective for drainage and thermal insulation.

- Water Treatment: Can be used as a filtration medium in water treatment systems.

Storage and Handling:

- Store in a dry, well-ventilated area.

- Personal protective equipment should be used when handling large quantities to minimize dust exposure.

Environmental and Safety Considerations:

- Non-toxic but can generate dust during handling.

- Spills can be recycled or used as fill material.
